A wonderful book

God’s Promises for Boys
By Jack Countryman and Amy Parker

God’s Promises for Boys by Jack Countryman and Amy Parker teaches boys about the usefulness of Scripture in everyday life. Each two page spread illustrates a promise made to man by God. There is a short poem about that promise and then three to four bible verses that support that promise made by God. In total, there are 60 promises addressed in the book.

I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations are adorable and my son really enjoyed reading the book. I also think that this will be a good book to refer back to when we need to address issues in his life. I think this would make a wonderful gift for any young boy. There is also a companion book entitled, God’s Promises for Girls. Although I have not seen this book, I think that it would be just as good as the one for boys.

A funny thing

Look at what I saw the other day in Montgomery!!! I wish I had my camera ready when I saw it on the road. When I first saw it I just about died laughing. The key was turning! It looked like a little wind up toy car.

Pictures of Gavin

Here is Gavin along with Lauren, Adrienne, and Cameron.
This was the Southside Baptist Church Child Development
Center's graduating class of 2009.

This is Gavin with the rest of the Kindergarten class along with the K4 class

sharing all you know about firefighting!

The Heart Mender By Andy Andrews

Andy Andrew’s The Heart Mender A Story of Second Chances tells the story of forgiveness and second chances. This story was previously released as Island of Saints. This release includes a Where are they now section as well as Reader’s Guide.

The story takes place on the Gulf Coast of Alabama during World War II. Helen Mason, a young widow of the war, is faced with the agony of her husband having been killed on his last day overseas before he was to have come home. Being alone, she moves to Alabama to take care of her Great Aunt who has cancer. After the death of her aunt, she is all alone in the world and feels anger towards everyone she comes in contact with. She later comes face to face with a German whose comrades had killed her husband. She is faced with the dilemma of whether to turn him in or forgive him and his comrades and help him heal.

I really enjoyed this book. The story sounded very familiar to me before I got the book. Afterward, I realized that the book had been previously released and decided that I probably heard about the book on a morning radio show I listen to. Andy Andrews is a wonderful storyteller. I found it difficult to put the book down. The book was easy to read and I would highly recommend it to others.

Thomas Nelson Publishers were so inspired by the message of forgiveness and second chances that this book conveys, they decided to send me an extra copy of the book to give away. So, respond on my blog by May 7th at 12 noon, and I will choose one person to send a copy of this book.
