The Heart Mender By Andy Andrews

Andy Andrew’s The Heart Mender A Story of Second Chances tells the story of forgiveness and second chances. This story was previously released as Island of Saints. This release includes a Where are they now section as well as Reader’s Guide.

The story takes place on the Gulf Coast of Alabama during World War II. Helen Mason, a young widow of the war, is faced with the agony of her husband having been killed on his last day overseas before he was to have come home. Being alone, she moves to Alabama to take care of her Great Aunt who has cancer. After the death of her aunt, she is all alone in the world and feels anger towards everyone she comes in contact with. She later comes face to face with a German whose comrades had killed her husband. She is faced with the dilemma of whether to turn him in or forgive him and his comrades and help him heal.

I really enjoyed this book. The story sounded very familiar to me before I got the book. Afterward, I realized that the book had been previously released and decided that I probably heard about the book on a morning radio show I listen to. Andy Andrews is a wonderful storyteller. I found it difficult to put the book down. The book was easy to read and I would highly recommend it to others.

  1. Having lived in south Alabama almost all of my life, I find reading novels with an Alabama sitting very interesting. Your review makes the book sound like a must read.
